911 Information

911 is the number to call to contact the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office for any reason. It is not limited to emergency use.

When a crime has been committed, call 911 immediately. It is helpful to also report the incident through your Neighborhood Watch and on Facebook. That can alert your neighbors and help them avoid becoming victims, too. And they may be able to provide additional information to the Sheriff’s Office to help apprehend the criminals. But always call 911 first.

Even if you view the crime as trivial or unlikely to be solved, still call 911. For that matter, call 911 whenever you see any suspicious activity; you do not need to be certain that a crime has been committed. JPSO welcomes and encourages such calls. The information you provide may be helpful in preventing and/or solving other crimes.

If you find yourself in a situation where it would be unsafe or inappropriate to speak to a 911 operator, you can contact 911 via text message. Simply type 911 in the “To:” field, then type your message and hit “Send.”

Cell phone technology routes your call through the nearest cell phone tower. As a result, if you’re close to Orleans or Plaquemines Parish, your 911 call may be routed to that other parish’s 911 system. Ideally, the other parish’s 911 operator should be able to re-route your call to the Jefferson Parish 911 system. But if necessary, you can contact the Jefferson Parish 911 system directly by dialing 227-1400.
