Flood Rate Maps Approval

The following process summary is based on information shared at the meeting sponsored by the West Jeff Civic Coalition on March 8, 2017.

After new maps are first published, various appeals can be filed, either challenging the accuracy of the maps or wanting to add new flood protection projects that weren’t completed when the maps were first made. Each time an appeal is filed, the whole public hearing and approval process starts over. With the most recent maps, Jefferson Parish took a different approach. Rather than file additional appeals based on recently completed projects, such as the drainage work on Terry Parkway, the parish waited until the new maps were finally approved and then submitted amendments to pick up the new improvements.
